When your laptop failed to charge power, you might check your laptop battery as well as your adapter. mostly, laptop AC adapter is easy to get abused. Then how to check the problem and get a solution?

Before buying a new item, check the laptop AC adapter to make sure whether it works properly or not while you plug it in. if it does so, there is no need to get an extra one. Another is the adapter cable. As the cable is long, the connection is easy to be ignored. Be sure that the connection is tight and close. You should replace your laptop AC adapter if it doesn't work after the preliminary examination within two steps above.

Unfortunately, your laptop failed to work within the two steps. Then how to select the exact adapter for your laptop? In sum, there are three specifications should be followed while purchasing a replacement. Voltage, output current and connectivity are three specifications besides part number of your laptop adapter. As to laptop adapter voltage, be clear about the number while you get a replacement. Usually, you can find it easily at the facet of your laptop AC adapter. This often happen to the exotic laptops. As you get an adapter from abroad, you might be alert about the voltage. In china, they generally adopt 220V. The second factor is the current input. That is the same with the voltage. Once the two factors are not compatible with your laptop, it might ruin your laptop itself. The lost is beyond your imagination. The third one is the connectivity. Namely, the exact laptop AC adapter is the one that can match your laptop on the outlet, the voltage, the current output. These all classified to connectivity. Like PA-12 AC adapter, it fits for many dell laptop models. Laptop AC adapter like 402018-001 AC adapter, PA-10 AC adapter, PA3468U-1ACA AC adapter and PA-21 AC adapter are the same situation.

This is usually taken as the basic parameters. If you are not critical about laptop AC adapter. This is eough for you to get a new replacement.

How to Test a Laptop AC Adapter With A Digital Multimeter

Power adapters (or laptop charger) are an ubiquitous part of our electronics-laden lifestyle. A power adapter takes the output of one power source, like a 120-volt AC wall socket, and converts it to a different output, for example a 19.5-volt power supply for a laptop computer. Usually these devices work dependably and without worry. But if you find the electronics devices that you have connected to a power adapter are not working properly or that their batteries are not charging, there’s always the possibility that the Toshiba ac adapter is not doing its job. With the right tool, however, you can check the output of your power adapter and see if that’s the source of the problem.

1、Examine your power adapter. Every dell ac adapter will have the input voltage and amperage requirements printed on it, as well as the output voltage and amperage rating. We’ll be testing the output of the power adapter, so write down the specs. An example would be this, taken from a laptop power adapter: Output – 19.5V….3.34 amps. We’ll measure the output of the power adapter with a multimeter — a very handy tool for anyone working with electronics. A multimeter can measure voltage, current, power output and resistance of electrical circuits by touching the electrical circuits or device with a set of probes. See Additional Resources for a good tutorial on multimeters.

2、Set your multimeter to the proper range for measuring the output of your pa3715u-1aca adapter. Take into account the voltage and the amperage you’ll be measuring. Consult the manual for specifics on how to set your particular model of multimeter.

3、Check the data plate of your dell pa-10 adapter to find out which portion of the plug is positive and which is negative. For example, on some power adapter plugs, the outer shell of the plug is positive, while on others it’s negative.

4、Touch the probes of your multimeter to the corresponding portions of the power adapter's plug and note the readout. Compare that with the rated output of the power adapter. If it varies significantly, replace the Toshiba power adapter.

Laptop AC Adapter Can Not Charge?

Laptop AC Adapter Can Not Charge? There are many people facing the same problem. “I’ve replaced both battery and AC Adapter, but why it still could not charge?” Maybe you are one of those who are complaining. Broken battery and AC adapter are the most common reason while there is another one that most people would neglect : Loose or Broken DC Power Jack. Symptoms of a broken DC power jack: - The laptop only operates when you hold the DC power plug in a certain direction (DC jack is broken or loose). - The laptop only runs on battery power (no power is getting through the DC jack). - The laptop gets no power at all. - The laptop will not charge the battery. - The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently due to a loose or broken power jack. - The laptop suddenly shuts off. - The DC jack may feel loose. - Sparks come out of the back of the laptop when you insert the power plug into the DC jack. How some repair centers handle DC jack repair: Most service centers don’t want to deal with this problem by attempting to repair the DC jack. Many, including the large nationwide stores and the laptop’s manufacturer, will either tell you the machine is not repairable or that they will need to replace the motherboard. These quotes usually run from $250 to as much as $800. They choose to ignore the fact that a broken DC power jack can be repaired without a motherboard replacement because they are not equipped with the tools or training to do DC power jack repair on your laptop. How a DC jack breaks: - The DC power jack on most models of laptops do not have enough reinforcement within the structure of the casing and motherboard to handle the stress caused by movement of the power plug. - Some DC jacks simply fail under normal operation of your computer. After a year or two of usage, parts just come loose on certain models. - Sometimes the laptop gets dropped and the plug jerks the DC jack loose. - People, pets and vacuum cleaners trip over laptop power cords and break the DC power jack. - The laptop is moved around a lot. After the DC jack is moved back and forth enough times, it comes loose. - In some cases the DC jack was not soldered onto the motherboard well by the manufacturer.

What To Do If Battery Can Not Charge

If your battery will not charge, you need to run a test on some components on the laptop. The battery, the charger and the laptop itself. Once you detect the faulty conponent then you replace it with a new one.

    First,to test the battery:

    1.Power off the laptop,

    2.Take out the battery,

    3.Insert it in another laptop,

    4.Check if it will charge,

If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the problem is not from the battery, but if it does not hold a charge, then it means the battery is defective and need to be replaced with a new one.

    To test the charger:

1.Unplug the charger from the present laptop,

2.Connect it to another laptop to see if it will charge.

If it charges the laptop, then it means the charger is alright, and if it does not charge the laptop, then it means the ac adapter is bad and need to be replaced.

    To test the laptop:

    1.Turn off the laptop,

    2.Disconnect your present charger,

    3.Remove your present battery pack,

4.Insert a well tested battery into the laptop,

5.Connect a well tested charger to the laptop.

If it powers on, then it and charges, then it means the laptop is working fine, but if it does not charge, then it means the connection port of the laptop is bad.Hope this information was helpful.

The Light On Toshiba M700 Adapter Turn Off

If you a Toshiba M700 laptop and and one day once you charge it on the battery but found it ran out and automatically turned off. You tried it later, and still the same question, you left it alone. The next day when you need to use the laptop you plugged it up and tried to turn it on, it stayed on for about a minute and then turned off ,and also the lights on the Toshiba M700 AC Adapter lit up for a few seconds and then all of them turned off. After that you tried to turn it on again and none of the lights would light up.

Here is my suggestion, hope it could help you .

If you have a multimeter, it'll be easy. Plug the charger in, test the connector of the adapter with a multimeter, remember, you only need to measure the DC voltage of the adapter. If the readings are close to the specification on it's label, then the Toshiba M700 power supply is OK.

If you do not have a multimeter, Turn the computer completely off and remove the battery,
and plug your Toshiba M700 charger, check out whether your notebook  could be powered on (no battery installed).

If you can power up your laptop, then the battery is dead.
